New Artist: Tanner Ruminer
You may know this guy as Tanner, your morning barista, but he’s got a lot more going on than just lattes. He’s a realtor, a university student, the owner of a catering company, and in his spare time, a Postmate.
As if all that amount of hustle isn’t impressive enough, Tanner has made time to explore new kinds of visual art. He went to school for photography at UCO, but found himself wanting to do something new, different, and original to him.
I don’t really take photos much anymore. I wanted to do something that was more original than just photos. Blend a couple of different mediums to see what I could create with it. I started experimenting with distressing photos, burn some of it, add epoxy to make it look really nice, but eventually started working on illustrations over photos I had taken and put that on wood, so I could have some consistent pieces.
The piece below was actually a collaboration with another artist (and Clarity alum) Tyler Roberts, each artist giving their own style to the same photo.
I knew that Tyler had a very different style of illustration from me, and I want to make more pieces and collaborate with a lot friends of mine, but since I was only doing four this time, and I worked with Tyler and saw him everyday, I had him illustrate one half of the piece for me and I illustrated the other… I took the same photo, measured out how wide it was, and cut it right down the middle.
