New Artist: Tyler Ray Mahan Roberts
We could not be more excited to introduce the latest artist to be featured on the walls at Clarity! It’s the one and only Tyler Roberts. Our good friend (and former barista) has been honing his art for years, and it’s amazing to be a part of one of his shows.
Tyler is an Oklahoma native who says he has “always enjoyed creating good vibes, whether it be through construction, art prints, or serving beverages”. He’s written a little about this show, titled Emancipated Suspension.
My art is based on a concept of change. Change is something hard to grasp for me. Most of my life has felt like one change after the other. I haven’t always enjoyed this. Change is a very black or white thing. It’s this to that; here to there. I like having options and feeling compelled to choose between only two things has always bothered me, until I realized that there is a space in between these things. A third option. It is a space free from pressure and obligation, the other, the freedom of not “having” to always be moving. A space disconnected from both sides, yet still present. I haven’t completely figured this out in word form, but these prints are the image bearers of this idea. Disconnected, unhinged, and ultimately free. This show gives me the feeling one feels just before falling backwards and just after pushing the front two feet of your 3rd grade math class chair off the floor. Emancipated Suspension.
Tyler’s art will be on the wall for at least the next six weeks, and all pieces are for sale. If you’re interested, you can email him, and to find more of his work, check out his Instagram @_tylerrayok_.
